Job Summary

The Applications Engineer (AE) is responsible for all technical aspects related to revenue growth for the company.  The AE works together with the Business Development Team to efficiently and effectively design (or re-design) sensors to meet specific customer requirements.  This requires interfacing with customers, establishing test routines to validate long-term sensor performance, and estimating product costs associated with the design.

Additionally, the AE must have a complete understanding of QTI’s manufacturing processes (and industry best practices) to design sensors around the simplest, most cost-effective manufacturing methods possible.  The AE not only designs the sensor but manages the project(s) throughout the process (design, prototype, validation, first-article, full-production launch).

Job Description

  • Design temperature sensors to meet customer’s requirements including
    • Mechanical configuration
    • Operating environment/parameters
  • Reverse engineer existing sensors as needed using both destructive and non-destructive means
  • Manage project(s) through, design, prototype, and new product launch
  • Oversee product validation testing and generate test reports from test data collected
  • Perform design costing and vendor sourcing (as needed) to support project
  • Build and/or oversee prototype orders
  • Own all aspects of rolling products from design into manufacturing
    • Set up new production line(s), as needed, at QTI’s Tecate, Mexico manufacturing plant
    • Develop assembly processes and create production process instructions/procedures
    • Create drawings and part numbers for finished assemblies as well as components
    • Perform training for production line technicians
  • Support Business Development Team in all technical aspects of the sales process
  • Travel as needed to:
    • Tecate, Mexico manufacturing plant
    • Customer locations within the US

Education

B.S. Engineering (preferably Mechanical)

Skills & Experience

  • Self-starter; motivated to succeed; “No Problem” or “Whatever it takes” mindset
  • Ability and desire to travel as needed to support both customer and manufacturing team
  • Basic SolidWorks modeling with an understanding of GD&T
  • Thorough understanding of Design for Manufacturing best practices
  • Professional written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications and drawings
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 Quality Standard beneficial
